Dorian Slouch Hat

A knit slouch hat pattern

Dorian is a musical mode based on the natural diatonic scale from the notes D to D. The D Dorian scale has all the same notes as the C Major scale, but starting and ending on the D. For example: D E F G A B C D. To play other Dorian scales you would use the pattern:

Whole Step - Half Step - Whole Step - Whole Step - Whole Step - Half Step - Whole Step

This mode was named for the Dorian Greeks.

Dorian is another Fiddle Knits design inspired by the menfolk. A simple textural design is paired with a rugged yarn for detail subtle enough for a guy, but interesting enough to knit. Once you establish the diagonal lines you won’t need to reference the pattern until the crown decreases.

You may, or may not, find using stitch markers beneficial during the forehead section while you’re establishing the diagonal purl ridges. Once past the forehead I would recommend removing all stitch markers and simply using a locking ring marker to note where your round begins. You should be able to clearly see the purl ridges and maintain your pattern. A locking marker fastened to the fabric (not sliding along your needle) will remain out of your way, yet still serve as a guide. Ultimately I find that the best way to approach a pattern like this one is to not use any stitch markers at all, at least once you are past the forehead increases
