A free knitting pattern for fingerless gloves

2012-Harmony
As a musician with bad circulation fingerless gloves, or hand warmers, are my best friend. They allow movement of my fingers, but afford me some warmth as well. This pair features a simple slit opening for the thumbhole, which allows maximum movement.

These little warmers are a breeze to knit up. The hardest part will be deciding what colors to use! When substituting yarn look for approximately 100 yards of DK weight in two complimentary colors.

Materials
Yarn: Rowan Classic Yarns, Silk Wool [75% pima cotton/25% acrylic; 109 yds/99 m; 1.75 oz/50 g], Color “Ivory” Color A: #301 “lime wash” Color B: #305 “clay”

Needles: US size 6/4mm straight or circular
Adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge: 18 sts & 36 rows = 4” in garter stitch.

Extras (button cuff only): Size F/3.75mm crochet hook, Two 3/4” diameter buttons (those shown are from the Rowan Collection)

Finished Size: Adult Women

The Pattern
HAND (make 2 the same)
Hint: slip the first stitch of every row purlwise to achieve a clean edge!
With color A cast on 24 sts. Work 9 rows in garter stitch (knit every row).

Thumb opening:

Row 1: SL 1, k5, bind off 8, knit to end.
Row 2: SL 1, k9, cast on 8, k6.
Work 40 rows in garter stitch. Bind off all stitches.
Hand is sewn together after cuff has been worked. See finishing instructions.

CUFF
This cuff can be worn up or folded over as the wearer wishes. Right hand: thumb slit is at left when picking up stitches Left hand: thumb slit is at right when picking up stitches
With RS facing and using color B, pick up 26 sts across top/cuff edge.

Row 1 (WS): SL 1, p1, [k2, p2] across.
Row 2 (RS): SL 1, k1, [p2, k2] across.
*Repeat these two rows until cuff measures 2” (about 12 rows) or desired length.
Bind off loosely in pattern.

FINISHING
Using color A sew hand seam together. Use color B to cross stitch down the hand seam.

BUTTON CUFF

Attach yarn (color B) to inner cuff edge with crochet hook. Chain 4, slip stitch in first stitch. Work single crochet loosely along cuff edges. Chain 2. Secure button to end of chain (this allows button to swivel and be buttoned with cuff up or folded down). Weave in ends.
