A free knit cowl pattern

Materials
knit cowl patternYarn
2 skeins Artyarns Supermerino, Impressionist collection [100% merino, 100 yds, worsted weight],
Color "Monet's Garden"

Needles
US size 10/6mm circulars (16”) or dpns

Gauge
5 sts = 1” in pattern worked in the round

Finished Size
Approx. 19” width along cast on edge. 9.5” in length.

The Pattern
All abbreviations can be found on the Stitch Guide page.

Suggestion: Use cable cast on for an elastic edge.

Cast on 95 sts.
Place marker and join for working in the rnd.

Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: Purl.

Begin stitch pattern
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: K1, [sl 1, k1, yo, psso 2 sts] around.
Rnd 3: Knit
Rnd 4: [Sl 1, k1, yo, psso 2 sts] around to last st. k1.
*Repeat these last 4 rnds until piece measures 6” from cast on edge.

Transition round:
M1, knit around – 96 sts.

Ripple pattern
Rnd 1: [(K2tog) 4 times, (k1, yo) 4 times] around.
Rnd 2: Purl
Rnds 3 & 4: Knit
*Repeat 4 rnds of ripple pattern a total of 4 times.
Remove marker after last rnd.

Applied I-Cord
Turn work so wrong side is facing you.
Use a knitted cast on to add 3 sts to left needle.
Turn work back to begin working on the right side once more.
*k2, ssk. Place 3 sts from right needle back onto left needle. Repeat from * until all stitches have been bound off.
Graft last 3 worked sts to first stitches of applied i-cord.
Weave in ends and block if desired.
