Allegro Sleeves
Knit armwarmers pattern

Skill Level: Easy

The Allegro sleeves are worked flat and then seamed along the top portion of the hand and arm. Basic stitches and a beautiful yarn get the job done nicely.

The yarn I used for the sample knit was handspun by a local fiber friend. It is a thick and thin single spun wool that falls into DK weight. In the materials box below I have given yardage estimates and also provided a few other yarn options that I feel would work for the style of these sleeves. Of course, do feel free to switch it up and use your favorite yarns.

Techniques

  • Knitting and purling in rows
Yarn 
95 (112, 122, 150, 170) yards / 87 (103, 112, 137, 155) meters; DK weight [11 wpi] single spun wool.

Yarn options
Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend [70% merino/30% silk; 150yd/137m; 50g; DK weight].

Malabrigo Silky Merino [51% silk’49% merino; 150yd/137m; 50g; DK weight].

Needles 
US size 9/5.5mm circular or straight.
US size 8/5mm dpns 
Adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge.

Hook 
US H/5mm crochet hook 

Gauge 
18 sts & 24 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 9/5.5mm needles.

Notions 
Tapestry needle, 
1.5 yards suede for lacing.

Sizes 
Child M (Child L, Adult S, Adult M, Adult L)

Finished Palm Circumference
5.5 (6, 7, 8, 9)”

The Pattern

Right Sleeve
Cast on 52 (56, 64, 68, 68) sts.
Set Up (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [k1, p1] 3 times.

Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [k1, p1] 3 times.
*Repeat these 2 rows for 1 (1.5, 1.5, 2, 2) inches.

Thumb hole Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k3, bind off 6, k46, [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, purl to first bound off st, cast on 6, p3, [k1, p1] 3 times.

Continue Sleeve
Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [k1, p1] 3 times.
*Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 5.5 (6, 7, 8, 9) inches from cast on edge.
Bind off all sts loosely.

Left Sleeve
Cast on 68 sts.
Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [k1, p1] 3 times.
*Repeat these 2 rows for 1 (1.5, 1.5, 2, 2) inches.

Thumb hole Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k47, bind off 6, k2, [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p3, cast on 6, p47, [k1, p1] 3 times.

Continue Sleeve
Row 1 (RS): [K1, p1] 3 times, k40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [p1, k1] 3 times.
Row 2 (WS): [P1, k1] 3 times, p40 (44, 52, 56, 56), [k1, p1] 3 times.
*Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 5.5 (6, 7, 8, 9)” from cast on edge.
 Bind off all sts loosely.
