The oud is a type of lute that is mainly found in Arab countries.
This design is a little bit of cowl, a little bit of a collar, and a whole lot of snuggly warmth. The colorwork found in this pattern is mild and can easily be tackled by a knitter who new to working fair isle techniques.
Do not forget, or try to avoid blocking this design! As with lace, stranded knitting greatly benefits from some tender loving finishing. You will be much happier with how your stitches lay after blocking.

Yarn
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky [100% Peruvian Highland wool; 137 yards; 100 grams]
Color 1 – 1(2) skeins “Blackberry”
Color 2 – 1(1) skein “White”
Needles
US 10.5(6.5mm) 16” circular needles, or size to obtain gauge.
US 10.5(6.5mm) 24” circular needles, or size to obtain gauge.
Gauge
14 sts & 16 rnds = 4” in stockinette stitch. (3.5 sts & 4 rnds = 1”)
Extras
Stitch marker to note round.
Sizes
S/M, L/XL
14(16)” at base of neck.
34(37)” at bind off edge.

The Pattern
Note: pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger size in parenthesis. When only one number appears it applies to both sizes.
With color 1 and shorter needles, co 56(64) sts. Work 2x2 ribbing (k2, p2) for 4”
• Change to longer cable when necessary
• Color 2 is only used on rnds where you are following a
color chart. All other rnds are worked using Color 1 only.
Rnds 1 & 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: [K3, m1] 8(12)x, [k2, m1] 16(14)x. {80(88) sts}
Rnd 4: Knit.
Rnds 5–9: Attach color 2 and work color chart A.
Rnd 10 (C1): Knit.
Rnd 11 (C1): [K5, m1] 16(17)x, k0(3). {96(104) sts}
Rnd 12 (C1): Knit.
Rnds 13–15: Work color chart B.
Rnd 16 (C1): Knit.
Rnd 17 (C1): [k4, m1] 24(26)x. {120(130) sts}
Rnds 18 & 19: Work color chart C.
Rnd 20 (C1): Knit
Rnd 21 (C1): Knit
Rnd 22 (C1): Purl
*Repeat Rnds 21 & 22 once more.
Cut Color 1
Using C2 knit 1 rnd.
With C2, work sewn bind off.
Weave in ends and block!
